In 1994, Turkish Electricity Authority (TEK) was restructured and divided into two separate Public Economic Enterprises; namely TEAŞ (Türkiye Elektrik Üretim İletim A.Ş. – Turkish Electricity Generation and Transmission Corporation) and TEDAŞ (Türkiye Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. – Turkish Electricity Distribution Company) with the decision of the Council of Ministers. In line with the decision of the Council of Ministers, TEDAŞ became a legal entity. In 1990, the operation right of the Istanbul Anatolian Side within the area of activity of Istanbul Electric Distribution Institution was transferred to AKTAŞ ELEKTRİK TİCARET A.Ş. pursuant to the law on assigned companies (law no. 3096) enacted in 1984.
The Articles of Association of Istanbul Anadolu Yakası Elektrik Dağıtım Anonim Şirketi, an affiliation of Türkiye Elektrik Dağıtım Anonim Şirketi included to the scope and schedule of privatisation in accordance with the decision (dated April 2, 2004 and numbered 2004/22) of Privatisation High Council, was revised as per the article 20/A of Law no. 4046; and the institution continued its operations as AYEDAŞ (Anadolu Yakası Elektrik Dağıtım Anonim Şirketi) as from January 1, 2005.
