Enerjisa Distribution Companies achieved localization of the material technology that can automatically resolve temporary faults on overhead energy lines via R&D works, which is also supported by Energy Market Regulatory Authority. The speed of resolving power faults quadrupled thanks to the domestically developed Automatic Recloser technology while customer satisfaction is to be increased with the shortened intervention times. Works are ongoing for extending the use of Recloser technology, the first domestic product in this field in Türkiye.
Leading energy transformation in Türkiye by placing sustainability to the core of its business strategy, developing projects with a particular focus on human and technology Enerjisa Distribution Companies, i.e., Başkent EDAŞ, Ayedaş and Toroslar EDAŞ, broke new ground once again by localizing a critical technology in electricity distribution as a result of R&D works supported also by the Energy Market Regulation Authority.
R&D works resulted in the production of a domestic Automatic Recloser technology which can automatically repair temporary breakdowns on overhead lines, corresponding to 80 percent of all power faults on these critical lines used in electricity distribution, using materials such as poles, conductors, isolators, and grounding elements. The domestic production percentage planned at the beginning of the Recloser Project, the first domestic production in this field in Türkiye, was also increased and realized as 77%.
The domestic technology was put into service in 2021 in the regions served by Başkent EDAŞ, Ayedaş and Toroslar EDAŞ, increasing the speed of resolving temporary breakdowns which occur due to reasons such as tree branches or conductive contact due to storm that do not cause any physical damage on the lines.
Temporary breakdown resolving speed quadrupled.
The field tests of the technology, for which domestic product certificate applications were made, and type and factory acceptance processes were completed, were conducted in Ankara, Istanbul, and Adana. A total of 35 products were installed in the field and electricity users regained access to energy without having to wait for an average of 46 minutes for intervention of the field teams during the unscheduled outages caused by temporary faults thanks to the extended the use of the device on the lines.
Enerjisa Distribution Companies, i.e., Başkent EDAŞ, Ayedaş and Toroslar EDAŞ, increased remote diagnosis and intervention speed for temporary breakdowns by 23 times and reduced the waiting time to 2 minutes thanks to the Automatic Recloser technology, while they are now able to resolve a temporary breakdown due to any contact within 30 seconds with the new domestic devices. Thus, they quadrupled the speed gained through SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and gained the skill of automation in the process of re-energizing.
“We state that we focus on technology and people while we are working to provide uninterrupted energy; and we put our words into action”
Oğuzhan Özsürekci, General Manager at Enerjisa Distribution Companies, emphasized the shortening time for intervention and reduction of outages with the domestic production of Recloser technology, use of which was difficult to extend up until now due to the challenges in importation and supply processes, and stated: “At Enerjisa Distribution Companies, we use the latest developments in technology in all our processes. Our goal is to invest in our country’s energy infrastructure with a particular focus on technology and people and to contribute to enabling energy to become uninterrupted, environmentally friendly, and accessible. Occupational Health and Safety risks are significantly reduced thanks to the Recloser technology and breakdown numbers and times will also reduce with the extended use of the system. Customer satisfaction will increase, and savings will be achieved on operational expenses thanks to this technology. I would like to thank EMRA for supporting us in carrying out this project as well as all our colleagues, particularly our R&D team, for developing this domestic and national technology.”

Ayedaş, one of the three Enerjisa Distribution Companies in electricity distribution, together with Başkent EDAŞ and Toroslar EDAŞ, will continue its maintenance works and investments at the Anatolian Side of Istanbul.
Operating with the industry-leading technologies and adopting a human-oriented approach, Ayedaş invested in the infrastructure of Princes’ Islands, one of the symbols of Istanbul, as part its goal to enable uninterrupted and high quality electricity distribution.
Carrying out digitalization-oriented projects and investments for electricity distribution, Istanbul Anadolu Yakası EDAŞ (Ayedaş) completed its undersea investments that the Company initiated in 2021 for Princes’ Island, one of the symbols of Istanbul, in the first half of 2022.
Ayedaş has planned new investments to strengthen the distribution lines in order to meet the energy demand of Princes’ Islands, which reaches up to five-fold during the summer season and has an intense visitor traffic particularly on weekends as the Princes’ Islands are a great tourism attraction destination for both local and foreign tourists. Thus, Ayedaş sustains its investments in order to provide sustainable and uninterrupted energy and achieved an energy investment worth TL 100 million.
A total of 13 km of cables laid under the sea
As part of the investment which is composed of three phases, Ayedaş installed medium voltage undersea cables of 13 kilometers in total; i.e., app. 7 kilometers between Dragos and Burgazada , app. 4.5 kilometers between Dragos and Heybeliada, and app. 1.5 kilometers between Büyükada and Heybeliada.
State-of-the-art cables used
Installed as part of the investment by Ayedaş, the cables were manufactured using the cutting-edge methods and in compliance with the requirements to operate undersea for long years in order to ensure continuity of supply and an increase in the service quality. Thanks to the cables that were installed and put into service as one piece, the goal was to minimize the risks regarding the continuity of electricity supply in the Princes’ Islands district.
Also completing the previous investments in the Princes’ Islands district between 2014 and 2020 to increase capacity and ensure supply continuity, Ayedaş also laid and put into use approximately 32 kilometers of medium voltage undersea and approximately 7 kilometers of medium voltage land cables for the related connections, cables as well as one Distribution Center and one substation.
