Ayedaş Sustains Its Strong Maintenance Works and Investments

Proceeding with the pioneering technologies in the sector and human-oriented working principles, Ayedaş sustained its maintenance & repair works as well as its investments in the first 9 months of 2024 as part of its uninterrupted electricity distribution services.

Together with Başkent EDAŞ and Toroslar EDAŞ, Ayedaş, i.e., the distribution companies of Enerjisa Enerji, which leads energy transformation in Türkiye by placing sustainability to the core of its business strategy, developing projects with a particular focus on human and technology and carrying out investments, successfully completed several projects at the Anatolian Side of Istanbul in the first 9 months of the year thanks to its customer- and solution-centric approach.

Sustaining comprehensive maintenance, rehabilitation and investment activities in order to provide sustainable, high-quality and uninterrupted energy at 8,319 substations and on 34,550-kilometer-long lines at the Anatolian Side of Istanbul, Ayedaş sustained its digital transformation efforts and steps taken to reduce its carbon footprint.

  • Energy infrastructure in Istanbul strengthened

In order to comply with its vision to have a better-lit city and to minimize adverse impacts of seasonal and geographical conditions, the company completed the maintenance works for a total of 44,032 lighting fixtures in Adalar, Ataşehir, Beykoz, Çekmeköy, Kadıköy, Kartal, Maltepe, Pendik, Sancaktepe, Sultanbeyli, Şile, Tuzla, Ümraniye and Üsküdar districts. Moreover, the company strengthened its energy infrastructure with the maintenance works completed at 944 panels, 14 substations and 1,397 distribution centers. In the same period, the company carried out maintenance works for 2,165-km-long lines, contributing to sustainable energy distribution.

Successfully achieving their investment goals in the first 9 months of 2024, AYEDAŞ completed the laying of 602-km-long new cables and the installation of 1,502 new lighting fixtures in order to provide uninterrupted and high-quality energy to over 3 million customers that the company serves. Furthermore, the company strengthened its infrastructure by installing 545 new electrical panels and 79 substations.

Following digital and innovative approaches in the energy industry and pioneering the digital transformation in the industry thanks to the projects carried out, Enerjisa Distribution Companies have strengthened their information systems and business practices and undertaken several projects to improve efficiency in the first 9 months of 2024.

Enerjisa Distribution Companies have developed several digital projects with a total budget of approximately 52 million TL, including the Grid Management System, Fleet Notification Portal & Platform Vehicle Controls, Energy Permission via CBS, Document Management System Application Project, EMRA Earthquake and Natural Disaster Project and Lifetime Adventures of Installation.

Enerjisa Distribution Companies localizes critical technology to reduce outages

Enerjisa Distribution Companies achieved localization of the material technology that can automatically resolve temporary faults on overhead energy lines via R&D works, which is also supported by Energy Market Regulatory Authority. The speed of resolving power faults quadrupled thanks to the domestically developed Automatic Recloser technology while customer satisfaction is to be increased with the shortened intervention times. Works are ongoing for extending the use of Recloser technology, the first domestic product in this field in Türkiye.

Contributing to gaining new talents in the energy industry and to the country’s employment rates, SPARK Summer Internship Program provides support for university students with career and education opportunities.

Leading energy transformation in Türkiye by placing sustainability to the core of its business strategy, developing projects with a particular focus on human and technology and carrying out investments, Enerjisa Distribution Companies, i.e., Başkent EDAŞ, Ayedaş and Toroslar EDAŞ, sustain their career programs which will shape the future of the industry and contribute to employment.

The 2024 closing event of SPARK, which is the next generation summer internship program initiated by Enerjisa Distribution Companies in 2021, including personal development, coaching support, project work, technical visits, and project presentations stages, was held.

On the last day of SPARK, 170 participants, who have attended the internship program for twenty days and developed their projects and benefitted from various trainings and technical visits together with 28 project coaches, received their certificates to initiate their career journeys.

Over 8,000 Applications from 154 Universities in 3 Years

Undergraduates had great interest in the SPARK Summer Internship Program this year, which is applicable for junior and senior undergraduates studying at Electricity Electronics Engineering and Industrial Engineering departments, as well as Schools of Economics and Administrative Sciences or Social Sciences who reside in 12 provinces, particularly in Adana, Ankara, and Istanbul during the internship period.

4,827 applications from 154 universities were taken into consideration in 2024 and a total of 170 participants from 54 universities got the opportunity to attend the Spark Summer Internship Program. While 8,418 undergraduates from 154 universities applied in the past 3 years –in the period of 2022-2024–, 365 undergraduates from 54 universities attended the SPARK Summer Internship Program.

AYEDAŞ Powers Up Through Maintenance and Investments

Proceeding with the pioneering technologies in the sector and human-oriented working principles, AYEDAŞ sustained its maintenance & repair works as well as its investments in the first 6 months of 2024 as part of its uninterrupted electricity distribution services.

Carrying out the electricity distribution works through digitalization-oriented projects and investments, AYEDAŞ had many achievements in the first 6 months of the year thanks to its customer- and solution-centric approach.

Providing services at 8,300 substations and on 34,417-kilometer-long distribution line, AYEDAŞ continuously carried out its repair & maintenance works as well as investments in order to offer sustainable and uninterrupted energy.

AYEDAŞ teams carried out maintenance works of the 33,062 lighting fixtures in Adalar, Ataşehir, Beykoz, Çekmeköy, Kadıköy, Kartal, Maltepe, Pendik, Sancaktepe, Sultanbeyli, Şile, Tuzla, Ümraniye and Üsküdar neighborhoods for a better-lit city; besides the maintenance works completed at 738 panels, 12 substations and 841 distribution centers. Moreover, the company carried out the maintenance works for a 1,559-kilometer-long line.

With these maintenance & repair works and investments, AYEDAŞ successfully achieved its goals set for the first 6 months of 2024.

AYEDAŞ focuses on the varying dynamics of the sector and continues its activities with a human-, solution-, and innovation-oriented approach. Laying a total of 312-kilometer-long new cables to offer better services to its more than 3 million customers that the company provides service, AYEDAŞ teams completed the assembling works for 546 new lighting fixtures. Furthermore, the company completed the assembling works for 201 new electric panels and 33 substations.

Sustaining its operations with the goal of providing high-quality, uninterrupted and sustainable energy, Ayedaş succeeded in protecting the power grid in the Anatolian Side of Istanbul from the negative impacts of extraordinarily high temperatures thanks to its continuous maintenance and repair works as well as the investments carried out. The city was supplied uninterrupted energy thanks to the conducted works despite the temperatures leading to increased power load on the grid by 33%.

Succeeding in meeting the increased electricity demand thanks to its realized investments, Ayedaş sustains its efforts with great devotion for a brighter Istanbul in every condition with 8,300 substations and 34,417-kilometer-long line.

Electricity consumption demand increased by 33%

Continuing to provide sustainable and continuous energy to its customers despite the 33% increase in the electricity load in the grid due to temperatures above the seasonal normals originating from climate change, Ayedaş sustained its continuous maintenance and repair works in the first half of the year to prevent any breakdowns for the consumers to enjoy a comfortable summer.

Proceeding with its investments in 2024 which continue since the day of completion of privatization process, Ayedaş completed the installation of 33 substations in the first 6 months of the year, with 312 kilometers of new cable and 201 switchboards. Undersea investment worth TL 100 million by Ayedaş for the energy of the Princes’ Islands

Operating with the industry-leading technologies and adopting a human-oriented approach, Ayedaş invested in the infrastructure of Princes’ Islands, one of the symbols of Istanbul, as part its goal to enable uninterrupted and high quality electricity distribution.

Carrying out digitalization-oriented projects and investments for electricity distribution, Istanbul Anadolu Yakası EDAŞ (Ayedaş) completed its undersea investments that the Company initiated in 2021 for Princes’ Island, one of the symbols of Istanbul, in the first half of 2022.

Ayedaş has planned new investments to strengthen the distribution lines in order to meet the energy demand of Princes’ Islands, which reaches up to five-fold during the summer season and has an intense visitor traffic particularly on weekends as the Princes’ Islands are a great tourism attraction destination for both local and foreign tourists. Thus, Ayedaş sustains its investments in order to provide sustainable and uninterrupted energy and achieved an energy investment worth TL 100 million.

A total of 13 km of cables laid under the sea

As part of the investment which is composed of three phases, Ayedaş installed medium voltage undersea cables of 13 kilometers in total; i.e., app. 7 kilometers between Dragos and Burgazada , app. 4.5 kilometers between Dragos and Heybeliada, and app. 1.5 kilometers between Büyükada and Heybeliada.

State-of-the-art cables used

Installed as part of the investment by Ayedaş, the cables were manufactured using the cutting-edge methods and in compliance with the requirements to operate undersea for long years in order to ensure continuity of supply and an increase in the service quality. Thanks to the cables that were installed and put into service as one piece, the goal was to minimize the risks regarding the continuity of electricity supply in the Princes’ Islands district.

Also completing the previous investments in the Princes’ Islands district between 2014 and 2020 to increase capacity and ensure supply continuity, Ayedaş also laid and put into use approximately 32 kilometers of medium voltage undersea and approximately 7 kilometers of medium voltage land cables for the related connections, cables as well as one Distribution Center and one substation.

AYEDAŞ on the Field to Fight Winter Conditions

AYEDAŞ enhanced its equipment, active vehicle and personnel resources that may be required in the electricity distribution grid to provide uninterrupted energy to the Anatolian Side of Istanbul against the meteorological events that can be encountered throughout the winter. A total of approximately 1000 personnel and 290 vehicles, including the teams that will support the operation personnel, if required, were put on alert in line with the disaster plan.

AYEDAŞ put all its efforts to complete its preparations in order to prevent the adverse impacts of the energy transmission lines due to the winter conditions expected to be effective in the Anatolian Side of Istanbul and to repair any power failures that may occur due to disasters as soon as possible. The Company stored the required equipment, materials and vehicles to provide uninterrupted energy.

As part of the preparations, AYEDAŞ has assigned approximately 1000 personnel including teams to support the personnel on the field, if required, to rapidly transfer to the designated points in the event of any crisis. The clothing and equipment requirements of the personnel for the challenging winter conditions were completed.

42 million TL investment in fighting snow

While the AYEDAŞ teams are on the field 24/7, the Company carried out rehabilitation and renovation works at 2224 substations in the Anatolian Side of Istanbul. AYEDAŞ teams got prepared for a possible disaster and completed their inventories as well as checking and keeping their vehicles, materials and equipment in the inventory in working condition. In addition to the investments made throughout the year, AYEDAŞ has its field teams and inventories ready for the heavy snowfall expected in the upcoming days and has also put into operation an investment of 42 million TL for these operations.

Technology Support to Field Coordination

On the other hand, the systems that enable the remote detection and response to power failures, including the critical points of the supply continuity remote monitoring system and 800 SCADA locations, were checked. Existing 904 push-to-talk devices and 520 vehicle radios that back up the system, which are extremely significant when responding to power failures as soon as possible, were tested.

Existing 904 push-to-talk devices and 520 vehicle radios that back up the system, which are extremely significant when responding to power failures as soon as possible, were tested.

Carrying out the electricity distribution works through digitalisation-oriented projects and investments, AYEDAŞ had many achievements in the first half of the year thanks to its customer- and solution-centric approach.

Providing services at 7,816 substations and on 29,415-kilometre-long distribution line, AYEDAŞ continuously carried out its repair & maintenance works as well as investments in order to offer sustainable and uninterrupted energy.

AYEDAŞ teams carried out maintenance works of the 20,380 lighting fixtures in Adalar, Ataşehir, Beykoz, Çekmeköy, Kadıköy, Kartal, Maltepe, Pendik, Sancaktepe, Sultanbeyli, Şile, Tuzla, Ümraniye and Üsküdar neighbourhoods for a better-lit city; besides the maintenance works carried out at 1,164 panels, 27 substations and 2,759 distribution hubs. Moreover, maintenance works for an 18.5- kilometre-long line were also completed.

With these maintenance & repair works and investments, AYEDAŞ successfully achieved its goals set for the first half of 2021.

AYEDAŞ teams carried out maintenance works of the 11,223 lighting fixtures in Adalar, Ataşehir, Beykoz, Çekmeköy, Kadıköy, Kartal, Maltepe, Pendik, Sancaktepe, Sultanbeyli, Şile, Tuzla, Ümraniye and Üsküdar neighbourhoods for a better-lit city; besides the maintenance works carried out at 696 panels, 19 substations and 1223 distribution hubs. AYEDAŞ teams carried out maintenance works of the 36,023 lighting fixtures in Adalar, Ataşehir, Beykoz, Çekmeköy, Kadıköy, Kartal, Maltepe, Pendik, Sancaktepe, Sultanbeyli, Şile, Tuzla, Ümraniye and Üsküdar neighbourhoods for a better-lit city; besides the maintenance works carried out at 2667 panels, 40 substations and 4084 distribution hubs. Moreover, maintenance works for a 1270-kilometre-long line were also completed.
